To All Residents,
Last week the Community Association representative, along with the General Manager of Golf and the Golf Superintendent met with a representative from Central Coast Council who is the authority on Biosecurity on Council. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss Salvinia management.
Last year after several meetings with council the Golf Course Management was told they cannot do any maintenance on the constructed ponds of the golf course, including weed control\u00a0 or on weed removal on the bank of this ponds.
The Community Association reached out to council to clarify the situation particularly with regards to Salvinia which is severely encroaching the golf course ponds. Salvinia is now described as a Priority Weed under Biosecurity definitions.
It was apparent during the discussion that this Council representative had no idea why the golf course had been instructed as above. He said treating the Salvinia would normally be a priority matter and council would normally assist with advice on such control.
The golf course superintendent had undertaken his own enquiries and had researched an organic weed control product available from Qld. This product requires a licence to purchase and the course to obtain the licence is being undertaken by him now. The council officer concurred with this approach and subsequently gave his support for the chemical to be used when all approvals processes had been completed.
The discussion also covered the directive given to the golf course last year to cease any other weed removal from the ponds or weed control and removal on the banks of the ponds. The Council Officer was to enquire as to what lead to this and why we had been so instructed. On the surface he could see no obvious reason why this directive would have been given.
So this email is to let you all know that the golf course has taken this matter seriously and is undertaking the steps to manage the Salvinia on the ponds and is seeking a directive for further weed control and removal.
